Functions of Management

Grasping and understanding the fundamentals and theories that lie behind management would be difficult to master for even the most successful business manager. Capturing the key elements and using them in a positive and forward moving manner is the key to success. In this paper I will go over the four functions of management which are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Taking a close look at the Organization I work for, breaking down daily tasks into these four functions should be a somewhat simple, well this was my initial thought anyways. I have always looked at management from the “chain of command” point of view deriving from the few years I spent in the U.S. Navy. In my current job I tend to try and fit management duties into the Military mold which never seems to fit just right.
