FUCK THE GOV MANLiterature. The art of the written word. During the early years, books were a key form of media. Allowing writers to spread their opinion across great distances and influence a nation. But it wasn’t that easy. Literature was monitored and if an article was thought to be treasonous of too controversial, the author could be imprisoned or killed. Hence satire. Many influential or controversial writers used satire too hide the true meanings of their work. Through the use of creative imagery they could avoid the fate waiting for those convicted of treason. The writers attacked all aspects of life, nobody was safe from their criticism. Later on satirical poetry and literature on political subjects took permanent root in Europe. Satire, oddly enough, appears as if it had been created as an a primary weapon of those oppressed but the establishment. But its roots are deeply woven throughout history.
