Religion is a very powerful belief that can cause destructive wars or be productive positive influences on the lives of the people who attend the church. Other than Islam, there is no other religion more powerful in the Western world than the Catholic Church. It has survived through horribly planned crusades and through its own civil war with Martin Luther’s 95 Thesis and Henry VIII creating the Anglican Church, forefather to all the modern Protestant Churches.
Religion molds people’s beliefs. It can be more powerful than the family. Religion has pushed people into living bombs, blowing themselves up along with civilians to further their own “religious” cause. In Angela’s Ashes the Catholic Church exercises its power over the community of Limerick by excluding Frankie from getting into secondary school solely on the basis of his socio-economic class.
