Pursuit of Dangerous Knowledge in Frankenstein & Faust

The story of Frankenstein is based on the main character, Dr. Victor Frankenstein, attempts to surge beyond accepted human limits and access the secret and power of giving life. Victor isolates himself from the world, which twists his perception of reality and nullifies his ability to determine consequences of his actions. His intentions for his research and creation were initially noble, or at least not evil. The term Frankenstein means, a monstrous creation that ruins its originator. The aftereffects of work pursued too far, in a seemingly consequence free state of mind, yielded a detrimental outcome.

The book gives you a picture of Victor’s seemingly ideal life. Victor has a relationship with his family and has friends and acquaintances from the university he is attending.
