Site Visit to the Independent Living Centre
The aim of the Independent Living Centre is to facilitate independent living for people with disabilities and to assist their carers, service providers, families and communities. It provides an avenue for a wide variety people to access information on daily living equipment, for example architects in designing disability compatible buildings and carers in providing effective tools for their clients. The centre is run by occupational therapists and operates in 3 ways. ILC offers a state wide phone service to answer broad to specific questions, a postal service where they can send out information, price guides and pictures and an equipment display that is open to the public on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s with appointments available on the other days.
They have over 6500 items available on their database ranging from kitchen and bathroom to transport and leisure however; only a portion of these items are presented at the equipment display,...
