Foot binding

The art of foot binding is a brutal and terrible thing. Foot binding was first introduced in the early 20th century. It became “fashion” to the widespread nation in china. These tight bounded, small feet were named “lily feet” because men and women found it beautiful, petite and high class. Girls as young as three to eight would have to go through this bone-fracturing process where mothers bind their daughter’s feet with cloth. After the binding, the cloth is sewed up, when the girls grow up and the cloth becomes tighter, this is when the process starts. The sewing prevents them from removing the cloth.
