This novel Flowers for Algernon is set in New York City. Charlie

works at a bakery and later on he joins classes at Beckman College.

Charlie’s mother and sister live in a poor part of town in Marks Street,

Brooklyn. His father left them and now has a barbershop in the Bronx.


The protagonist is Charlie. The readers see everything in his view.

they can see when Charlie was a retarded person and when he was a genius,

two different people in one body.


The antagonist is Charlie’s mother because she wants Charlie to be

normal. And she rejects him due to the fact he is retarded. Prof. Nemur is
