Fish snagging

Snagging Is A Problem For Everyone

In many states, the snagging of salmon was a legal activity. The fish are going to die, so what does it matter was a very common attitude for many people on the water. Generations of families had made snagging a fall favorite. Snagging is a problem on many tributaries, and effects all migratory species once they hit the gravel.

In all states surrounding the Great Lakes, the snagging laws have been changed, and snagging is
in violation of the regulations.
People that snag fish are breaking the law, and most snaggers do not care.

Snagging is relatively easy in gin clear water that is only 24" deep, especially when your talking spawning Salmon or Steelhead. It does not take much skill to toss a cleo over a holding fish and to set the treble hook into the side of the fish.

This is NOT fishing, this is SNAGGING.
Snagging is problem on many of our waters. It can decimate natural fish reproduction, by removing the spawning fish from the redds...
