Fire Extinguishers

Fire Extinguishers are one of the most recognised ways to control fires and should only be used when the fire can be tackled safely without the risk of anyone getting seriously hurt or if the fire is controllable. Different fire extinguishers tackle different types of fire. If the wrong type of extinguisher is used it could cause the fire to get bigger or spread faster.
Most extinguishers today are labelled with pictures to show what type of fire the extinguisher has been designed for. They can also be rated by class. There are four main classes of extinguishers…

Class A extinguishers - Can be used to tackle fires started by ordinary combustibles such as wood or paper.

Class B extinguishers - Are used on Flammable liquids such as oil or petrol but great care should be taken and when attacking these fires as they are much more dangerous than Class A fires. If the fire is to big it should be tackled by an expert.
