Finding Truth in the Words of Confucius

There is much truth to uncover that is hidden in The Analects of Confucius as translated by Chichung Huang. Though it might take much uncovering and thought truth is there to find. It was particularly easy to find truth in “Xian Wen” Book Fourteen, passage four (14.4):
The Master said: “A man who possesses virtue must also possess worthy sayings, but a man who possesses worthy sayings does not necessarily possess virtue. A man of humanity must also possess courage, but a man with courage does not necessarily possess humanity.”
Just because a person possesses certain characteristics doesn’t mean that they possess another characteristic that traditionally goes hand in hand but it doesn’t mean that they don’t either. Like this passage makes clear, what is traditionally known shouldn’t be taken for granted because someone might no always be who they seem.
