Federalism outline Federalism What I have below is the outline for an overall discussion of the US federal system, and, indeed, of all federal systems in the world. It begins with an outline of state systems -- unitary, quasi-federal, confederal, and federal. Under these headings will be a discussion of how each of these systems works, and what its advantages and disadvantages are. It follows then, with the reasons for federalism. That is to say, the reasons for establishing a federal system of government, as opposed to the others.
