FAULTING MASCULINITY

After reading Things Fall Apart, I realized that Okonkwo¡¦s passion to be the complete opposite of his father caused him to fall from grace. There is a saying that ¡§too much of everything is bad.¡¨ The main character valued manliness, and rejected everything for which his father stood for. Believing that his father was lazy, poor, affectionate to women, and interested in music, leads Okonkwo to develop opposite ideals. He becomes industrious, wealthy, unaffectionate, violent, and opposing to music. His true character flaw was that he was very much opposed to being seen as ¡§feminine.¡¨
