Family First

The plays Antigone and A Doll’s House show us that throughout history there continues to be an internal struggle between moral and social values. When we look at the major characters of these plays; Antigone, Nora, Creon and Torvald we see how real this struggle is. Antigone and Nora must make decisions that go against what is socially acceptable. Antigone goes against a law set forth by King Creon, and Nora breaks the law with forgery. Each achieve personal satisfaction over their problems although their victories are far from the same. Antigone’s decision causes her imprisonment and death while Nora’s decision gives her freedom and a new life. Both Antigone and Nora put their family first in their decisions.
Antigone agonizes over the death of her two brothers. One brother who fought for Creon was buried with full military honors while the other brother is left to rot in the sun because he was against Creon. Antigone...
