Falling

Lucas was forced to take actions into his own hands with the uncertainty of his mother concerning the mystery of Grandfather Stockx. As Lucas states, “My mother had no idea what was going on. With hindsight I blame her a bit for that.” and with this quote I believe Mme Beigne was partly responsible for Lucas’s curiosity provoked actions. Mme Beigne seemed to be too pre-occupied with her own life and her own problems to even concern herself about her son’s activities. Her lack of involvement evidentially led Lucas to pursue the unknown as he saw fit, without supervision. Therefore, he was able to come into contact with the ever-manipulative Benoit. Mme Beigne continues to evade Lucas’s questions about his grandfather, and with this Lucas stood alone to unearth the telling truth.

From the beginning there is a mystery surrounding the antagonism between Soeur Beate and Lucas' grandfather.. We learn that Felix Stockx was, at the very least, an apologist for the Holocaust ...
