Fahrenheit 451

How crazy do you think Bradbury’s society in Fahrenheit 451 is? Do you think his futuristic society was unrealistic and outlandish or do you think that it will only be a matter of time until our own society turns into that? Personally, I think that our society shares some very strong similarities with the society in the book. Here are some reasons why I think they are similar.

The major similarity I see is the presence of censorship. In Fahrenheit 451, the government ordered all books to be burned. Captain Beatty says that, “ a book is a loaded gun in the house next door. Burn it (Pg.58).” This shows how the government’s influence prompts others to oppose books. I think the government does this to obtain and retain control over the society to prevent uproar and the possibility of being overthrown.
