Explain what Christians believe about the death of Jesus.

Jesus said he had to suffer and die because he had been sent on a mission of self-sacrifice. He came to serve and to sacrifice his life to benefit people. This idea is made clear in Mark 10:41-45, Jesus says ‘For even the Son of Man did not come to be served; he came to serve and to give his life to redeem many people’
