Evaluate the impact of european colonisation on aboriginal belief systems and society


It all began in 1788, with a fleet of 11 ships, 290 marines, 717 convicts, and Captain Arthur Phillip. This was the start of a European invasion on the Australian continent, one which would disrupt the society and belief systems of the Aborigines for many years to come.
To justify their claims to the country, the colonists declared Australia “terra nullius”, meaning a land belonging to no one. They then established what was known as “The Great Chain of Being”, in which Europeans were the superior race, and the Aboriginals were inferior.
The Europeans brought new diseases the country, and the Aborigines died in great numbers as they had never had never encountered those diseases before and therefore had not developed immunities to them.
