At least once in a person’s lifetime he/she will experience the death of someone close to them. When that time comes, or if it already has, that person would not want their loved one to experience intolerable pain and suffering throughout the entire process of dying. This is why some people choose euthanasia. In Greek terms the word euthanasia means “good death” and it in our society it refers to killing a person at that person’s request to die, or mercy killing. Most instances of euthanasia are for eliminating pain and are related to physician-assisted suicide. This type of assistance is when a physician directly administers giving the patient lethal medication. Euthanasia is illegal in most state in this country. However, people should be legally given the choice to request euthanasia.
