Ethics and Confidentiality
Human Services is characterized as a helping agency. The use of technology in
Human Services is vast and ever increasing. Computers, fax machines, and databases have replaced traditional filing systems. Although the use of technology has improved the quality and quantity of services, the protection of patient confidentiality has suffered.
Personnel training and implementing policy and procedures will foster appropriate use of storing and protecting confidential information.
Appropriately utilizing obtained data ensures individuals requiring mental health services receive accurate care. The need for disseminating the appropriate level of care cannot outweigh the importance of protecting sensitive information. Information used inappropriately could potential have negative side-affects...
