Ethan Frome is a normal man with a simple life. He isn’t an outspoken man; he keeps to himself, and that is okay with him. Ethan seems like he doesn’t like to complicate things. He is just going through the motions of life. There is no excitement and nothing to look forward to for him. The reason why Ethan lives his life the way he does is because of his wife Zeena. Zeena is an old, grouchy woman who gets what she wants because she is sick. There is no spark in her and Ethan’s relationship. They show each other no affection. The author says nothing about hugging or kissing throughout the novel.
