Ethan Frome; a moral man?

Edith Wharton, born into a wealthy high class family; was rejected by her mother for wanting to become a writer. Now famous author of Ethan Frome, wanted to show life how it really was during the time period. The book takes place in the frozen town of Starkfield, Massachusetts during the climax of winter. The main character of the novel is Ethan Frome, who is a very honest and noble man. Ethan struggles with many difficult decisions and many hardships throughout his life. Ethan studied science and architecture in college for a year and probably would have succeeded as an engineer or physicist had he not been summoned home to run the family farm and mill. His wife; the somewhat vague and bitter Zeena Frome was always sick and difficult to deal with throughout the duration of the novel. She would always be in bed or off seeing new doctors to fix something that might not have even been there.
