Directors use many different literary techniques to provide more of an image for the viewers. These techniques, in most cases, make the movies much more enjoyable for people who want more than just a story line. For some people they don’t look to far into the movie and just enjoy it anyway. Allusion is a well-known reference to the past and is very evident in the movie Pleasantville. There are three types of allusion evident in the movie. They are historical, biblical, and mythological. A director would use this in a movie to provide another picture and reference to give a clearer meaning to the story line. For example the book burning, many years ago the Nazis burned books to cleanse the country of “un-German” thoughts.
