ESOL in the classroom
In the United States today it is very common to meet people who did not originally speak English. This made it very difficult in the schools because children who did not originally speak English had a hard time. Over a decade ago a class action law suit was made against the Florida Department of Education. This resulted in a court decree ordering the Florida Department of Education to change its approach to they way they would educate those who are limited in English. This is why it is so crucial today that those who do not originally speak English be taught in a way that they may enhance their understanding of the language. This is where ESOL in the classroom comes into play.
ESOL by definition is English Speakers of Other Languages. ESOL students in elementary and secondary schools need to become fully competent in English, to have full access to grade-appropriate instruction in all academic subjects, and ultimately to lead full and productive lives. The...
