ENGINES PARTS PROJECT

Cylinder Head
Rectangular shaped block of cast iron, which has holes to accommodate valves, screws and channels for oil. The cylinder head covers the tops of the piston cylinders and sits on top of the block.

Rocker
T-Shaped part that pivots on the rocker shaft and is connected to the valve on one side and the push rod on the other. The Rocker converts the up or down motion of the push rod into the opposite on the valve.

Valves
Valves are shaped like golf ‘T’. The skinny end attaches to the rocker and the flat end into a hole in the bottom of the cylinder head. There are 12 valves controlling flow of petrol and air and exhaust.

Push Rods
A Rod approx. 18 cm long, with a ‘pea’ sized bulb at each end. It attaches to the Rocker at the top and the other end sits on the camshaft. As the camshaft spins the pushrod goes up and down to move the rocker.
