Energy

Plants and animals have different processes of obtaining energy. Plants undergo photosynthesis, converting light energy into fuel. Animals use cellular respiration, using energy stored in organic molecules.
Photosynthesis consists of two types of processes, the Light Dependent Reaction and Light Independent Reaction. The light reaction requires the presence of light. Solar energy is absorbed by chlorophyll drives the transfer of electrons and hydrogen from water to the electron acceptor NADP+, which is reduced to NADPH and temporarily stores energized electrons. Oxygen is released and water is split. ATP is formed during the light reactions by photophosphorylation, the conversion of energy into pyrophosphate bonds of an ADP molecule: an electron is carried through a series of redox reactions and attaches to NADP+ and Hydrogen to form NADPH, which is carried to the dark reactions. The dark reactions can occur independently of light. In the Calvin cycle, CO2 is incorporat...
