Introduction

“Various anti-discrimination laws, wage and hour statutes, and safety and health legislation have secured basic employee rights and brought numerous job improvements to the workplace.” (Bolander, Snell & Sherman, 2001, p.520) In addition to the legislation surrounding these changes, we have also seen dramatic workplace changes occur because of policies on privacy and sexual harassment.

The policies governing privacy and sexual harassment are often unclear, and sometimes are only understood too late---and usually in court. However, regardless of the pending litigation, the benefits provided to both the employer and employee are far reaching.

Privacy Issues

Prior to all the new technology we see today, there was very little an employee could do to monitor the many aspects of their employee’s jobs. Today it is a different story.
