Emily’s Father is to Blame

William Faulkner’s “A Rose for Emily” tells a story of a young woman who is violated by her father’s strict mentality. After being the only man in her life, Emily’s father dies and she finds it impossible to let go. Like her father, Emily possesses a stubborn outlook on life, and she refused to allow anything to change. While having this outlook on life Emily secluded herself from society for the remainder of her years. Emily’s father’s death causes her to be stubborn and refuse to allow change. It is these qualities and her isolation that cause her to murder her future suitor.
This story takes place throughout the reconstruction era from the late 1800s to the early 1900s in Jefferson Mississippi.
