Emily Dickinson "Success is Counted Sweetest"

Emily Dickinson is one of the few poets that I can relate and empathize with. I find her poetry to be extremely moving and touching. Her diction or brevity in the poem, “Success is Counted Sweetest” is remarkable and meaningful. I enjoyed every moment of this poem, not only because it’s touching in many ways, but because the diction and symbolism of each stanza, sentence, and word, meant something special. It was easy to read and after I got the hang of it, it was easy to understand and explain.
Like any other reader would do, I began to read the poem from beginning of line one to the end of line 12. I read it about three to four times before it actually started to click. Her first two lines, “Success is counted sweetest By those who ne’er succeed.” is a mere summary of this poem. In the non poetic terms, all it means is, those who don’t succeed tend to appreciate success better then those who always do. What intrigued me was her choice of the phrase “counted...
