Elizabeth's love for Mr. Darcy

“ Elizabeth could but just affect concern in missing him; she really rejoiced at it. Colonel Fitzwilliam was no longer an object. She could think only of her letter” (177).

There were some minor hints at the beginning of the novel with the intention of suggesting that Elizabeth has some meaningful feelings for Mr. Darcy. In this significant part of chapter thirteen, however, there seems to be quite an obvious hint as to the fact that Elizabeth, although, she does not realize it herself, and in fact denies the thought, cares for Mr. Darcy as a possible soul-mate. These probable feelings are first apparent because of Elizabeth’s obsession with Mr. Darcy’s letter. “She could only think of her letter”, but in reality, perhaps, she could only think of Mr. Darcy and his feelings for her, unconsciously realizing her parallel feelings for him.
