The main purpose of this paper is to determine wether or not the cash subsidies paid by the government in wealthy nations to their cotton farmers interferes with international competition in the cotton trade. In the following lines of this paper I will try to make clear the actual truth. I will use statistical data to make my points and convey the idea more clearly.
In 1998/99, the strongest cotto0n producer was China with 20.7 million of 480-lb bales the second highest in out put in 98/99 was United States with 13.9 million of 480-lb bales . The third highest output of cotton in 98/99 was India with 12.9 million of 480-lb bales, the fourth highest in 98/99 was Pakistan with only 6.3 million of 480-lb bales. China , United States, India and Pakistan are the top four leading producers of cotton in the world.
