El Salvador

The Republic of El Salvador is a small country with 8,124 sq. miles, it is about the size of Massachusetts. It is the smallest nation in Central America and has one of the greatest populations. Guatemala lies to the northwest, the Honduras lies to the north east, and to the south is the Pacific Ocean. The population is rapidly increasing and the farmland is shrinking. The capital is San Salvador. Both the dollar and colon are now legally used in El Salvador.
El Salvador is a tropical country. Most of the country is on a fertile volcanic plateau about 2,000 ft high. The coastal plain along the Pacific is very hot, although the humidity is relatively low. In the mountains temperate tropical temperatures prevail, from about 600 to 1,200 m the climate is spring-like and mild.
