effects of training

ANAEROBIC ENDURANCE
To improve anaerobic endurance, players should do interval training. This involves a number of work periods interspersed with periods of rest. Athletes should work with a heart rate of over 180bpm, but their heart rate should have dropped to 120bpm at the end of the rest period. This training should be made specific to the sport. Hockey requires short bursts of speed followed by rest, and so this should be reflected in the training. Interval training causes many adaptations, which will therefore improve performance. (P Beashel & J Taylor :Advanced Studies in Physical Education and Sport)
The long term effects of anaerobic speed training are to
 increase the size of fast twitch muscle fibres (hypertrophy), and
 to convert type IIa fibres into type IIb fibres.
 the muscle cells will be adapted to store greater amounts of creatine phosphate and muscle glycogen.
 the efficiency of the energy-producing chemical reactions within th...
