Effective Practice in the Probation Service

To formulate effective practice in the Probation Service I think it is important to be mind-full of the expectations of the National Probation Board and its aims and objectives as this ultimately must be our benchmark for National Standards. However many things must be taken into consideration. In many ways the service is still recovering from many years of neglect, and it is till reeling from the enormous changes that have subsequently been made and indeed are still being made to improve practice. Therefore to maintain effective practice long term the service will have to grow to be much more flexible than it has previously been, and be confident enough to be able to absorb dramatic changes quickly and effectively.

Personally effective practice would mean to me to be an efficient Probation Officer with the professional skills and experience, working along side other agencies in a non Discriminatory environment, effectively delivering Community Punishment Orders, supervising and wor...
