Edgar Allan Poe's Literary Devices

Edgar Allan Poe’s literature consists of various literary devices such as personification, similes, allusions, imagery, and diction.
Poe’s diction words are extremely intense and play a vital role in setting the mood, or tone of the story. It allows the reader to fully interpret his theme. In the poem “The Raven”, Poe is overwhelmed by melancholy and omens of death. This poem depicts usage of diction with gothic words. Some of these gothic words are sorrow, cried, unhappy, and unmerciful, since he repeats these words continually in the poem. These words describe Poe’s emotions about his forgotten long, lost love.
