Edgar Allan Poe was born on January 19, 1809 in Boston. His mother was Elizabeth Arnold Poe. She died in Richmond on December 8, 1811. Edgar was taken into the family of John Allan, a member of the firm of Ellis and All, tobacco-merchants.
Poe registered at the University of Virginia on February 14, 1826. He lived in room 13, West Range. He became an active member of the Jefferson Literary Society, and passed his courses with good grades.
Poe published his first volume of poetry in Boston. Tamerlane and other poems. The rare book has sold for $200,00.
