Article Analysis Week One
On Thursday, April 24, 2003, President Bush visited Canton, Ohio in an attempt to sell his tax cut proposal. President Bush planned this trip in the hometown of a fellow Republican who refuses to go along with the proposed plan. Economists have also debated whether a new round of tax breaks will provide the troubled economy with the stimulus it needs. Edwin Chen and Janet Hook, Los Angeles Times staff writers, summarized the Presidents visit in an article titled, "Bush launches tax cut offensive".
Some of the opposition to Bush's plan comes within his own party. GOP Sen. George Voinovich joined other Senate moderates in refusing to vote for any tax cut greater than $350 million.
