Early Settlement in Jamestown

The earliest settlement in Jamestown began in 1607, with the arrival of English settlers. These men at Jamestown had a serious labor problem. This problem included bad work attitudes, following the Spanish model that did not work, English government regulations that were to hard on this settlement and a military expedition that was not successful.
Upon arrival this aspiring colony had limitless resources on which to build. However by, “October 1609 results in near disaster. The settlers fritter away their time and energy, squander their provisions, and starve” (34). The early settlers were from England and were accustomed to life, as they knew it in their country. Many were attracted by advertisements from the Virginia Company that painted a different picture then what was true.
