Dual Booting in Windows XP

There are two parts to the removal: eliminate the Boot Options Menu (BOM) and clear out the remnants of Windows XP. Before you edit the Boot.ini file, I recommend that you make a Windows 2000 boot floppy as described in PC User June 2001, page 72.

To eliminate the BOM, right-click My Computer and click Properties (In Windows XP, the default location of My Computer is on the Start menu, rather than on the desktop). Then, on the Advanced tab, click the Settings button in the Startup and Recovery box. Drop down the 'Default operating system' list in the System Startup box, select 'Windows 2000' (or whatever the Windows 2000 option is called on the BOM) and click OK twice.
