Dracula Novel Research

In reading the novel Dracula, I have found many things interesting. I have found many different approaches to the reasoning behind one main topic in my research that has interested me. This topic is the reasoning and meaning behind Bram Stoker using vampirism in his novel. At first glance, this may seem like an absurd topic, but in further research it has made the novel seem a lot more philosophical to me.
The novel starts with minimal vampire reference, however a couple of eerie events do occur. There is the part where the driver of the coach that Jonathan Harker rides in to Castle Dracula goes in front of a flame, but does not obstruct the view as if he is transparent. Also, there is Dracula, who only seems to come out during the night and never eats or drinks. Of course, all who read this novel know he is a vampire, but this is the first references toward the vampiric theme.
