In some cases pride and desire for more power and knowledge can be a good thing. for example, going to college is a way to gain more knowledge, be mpore successful in life, and allows the college student to have pride in his or her accomplishments. In the book, Dr. Faustus, written by Christopher Marlowe, this is not the case. Faustus is guilty of many sins, pride being the greatest, but perhaps it is his desire for knowledge bwyond the scope of man that causes God to damn him. It is simply Faustus' audacity in daring to question his place in the universe, which which turns God against him.
Faustus has a great desire for knowlegde and power. He rejects medicine and the study of theology because he does not want any limits. It is very ironic that Faustussigns his soul over to the devil in order to have no limits, because by signing Lucifer's document he is limiting his freedom.
