Domestic Abusers and Religious Views

"Anyone who lives in a violent home experiences an essential loss. The one place on earth where they should feel safe and secure has become a place of danger. The shadow of domestic violence has fallen across their lives and they are forever changed. " (US Attorney General's Task Force Report on Family Violence, September 1984). In the recent years, the occurrence of domestic violence has become more recognized in our society. Domestic violence is physical abuse, sexual abuse, or psychological abuse among two or more family members and has numerous effects on individuals, families, and society in general. Most domestic abusers are products of an unstable household, which is supported by religious teachings in books like the Holy Qu’ran and the Holy Bible. Violence is a learned behavior.
