Many people, as well as the press, voice the idea that our public education system needs improvement. One can hear countless negative reports on the news and read disapproving articles in newspapers and magazines. With higher standards of teacher certification, instructional changes, and accountability in the form of assessments, our public education system does not promote mediocrity.
First, hiring certified professional teachers must be the primary focus of any educational system. If the teachers are not qualified to teach, students do not learn. Currently, the requirements for teachers include a computer competency test, and each school must have a technology specialist.
