Do you agree with Malcolm that Macbeth is a ‘dead butcher’, and his wife a ‘fiend-like queen’?

Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are basically good people who’s ambition gets the better of them. It is unjust for Malcolm to describe them as a “dead butcher and his fiend - like queen”. At the begging of the play they are a respected people who share a very loving relationship. However their downfall is caused by their ambition for Macbeth to be great, which was ignited by the witches’ prophecy. Macbeth’s indecision on whether he should kill Duncan or not, and lady Macbeth’s begging of the sprits to take away her feminine qualities, shows us that ruthless aggression does not come that easily to them.

Macbeth is a Scottish nobleman and shows courage and bravery in battle. He is well respected, and after a brave battle, Duncan believes he is worthy to become Thane of Cawdor.
