Differences between men and women social development

According to Carol Gilligan as found in Vander Zanden (2003) some psychologists and sociologists believe that the adult experience is different for women than for men. A woman’s development is not a steady progression as they tend to recover in adulthood the confidence, assertiveness and positive self esteem that Western society pressured them into compromising during adolescence. The males gather in groups that are hierarchical and thus teach boys how to compete for the center of attention often by ridicule and negative comments toward others in the group. Females however, tend to form pairs of good friends who will most likely share secrets and develop intimacy in their relationships.
