“…And had everything necessary to the modern man, a phonograph, a radio, a car and a frigidaire.” In American society, it has always been a trend to own everything that can better improve one’s way of life. Objects that one must have but does not truly need are found and sold everywhere in America today. Society today is very materialistic. In order to be part of the “in crowd,” one must have the latest in video gaming systems, or the newest pair of Michael Jordan’s shoes.
Every time we turn on our television sets or flip through the pages of a magazine, we find advertisements for the newest, not needed, but must have material objects. Is a radio really necessary in order to get by in every day life, or has our society just become so familiar with it that we cannot...
