Deviant Behavior

Thirty-four years ago Stephen Freeland and Leon Wright, two young African American men, murdered a Caucasian police officer. The murder took place on July 18, 1969 in York, a small city in Pennsylvania. At the time of the murder, there had been ten days of race riots that left two dead, over sixty injured and entire city blocks burned. Now over a quarter of a century later, Stephen Freeland and Leon Wright face second degree murder charges. The killing of Patrolman Henry Schaad is the deadly outcome of racial tension, and oppression.
Some reasons for why these two men made the choices they did are socio-economical and socio-genic. For one, the boys most likely grew up in a poor neighborhood with little to offer. And at that time when blacks were much more oppressed, there must have been extreme frustrations growing up black, poor, and uneducated.
