Deceptive Women

Women have a very cunning way to manipulate men. Sometimes they do so without even knowing it. In oneparticular short story, “The Judge’s Wife” by Isabel Allende women unconsciously alter the men around them. Nicholas Vidal and Jack Potter are among the men who undergo a significant change from the women’s influence.
In “The Judge’s Wife,” Nicholas Vidal is a bandit with a hardened heart that is destined to “lose his head over a woman.” He restricts himself from emotional encounters with women and has brief encounters with them instead. Preferring “dark-haired and brazen women” Nicholas does not hesitate to look at Dona Casilda on her wedding day, because she is pale and her eyes are “filled with wonder and her fingers are obviously unskilled in the art of rousing a man to pleasure...
