Death of Patriotism The Death of Patriotism Since the end of the 1980s interest in serving in the United States Armed Forces has been waning. Indeed, many Americans will go to great lengths to avoid meeting the gaze of a military recruiter regardless of his branch of service. There is something about the military that causes trepidation in the youth of America. In the following paragraphs we will explore the social reasons for the slump in recruiting over the last twenty years, which was attributable to a lack of focus on recruitment and changed social norms.
