How important is the “Dinner Sequence” to the play Death of a Salesman as a whole?
The dinner sequence is very important to the play death of a salesman as a whole. I think that this sequence is like a “ wake up call” for the Loman’s as their final hopes are dashed. In this sequence Biff realises that the Bill Oliver deal has gone, and that he is going down the same road as his dad. But for him he still has a chance to be successful. But for Willy he is coming to terms with the fact that he is a failure and that he has to lie to impress people. It is generally about self realization as Biff starts to realize that he has so far in life he is a failure but he still has a chance to do something in his life. For Willy though his last chance has gone but he is yet to realize this. In this sequence Biff starts to realise that his father needs help and support but Happy is yet to realise this.
