Death is a recurrent theme, in what's eating gilbert grape, yet the ultimate effect is hopeful, full of images of rebirth and life. Discuss

What's eating Gilbert Grage is a hopeful film even though death occurs a great
number of times in it. The death of Bonney Grape and Mr Carver are shown in the
film and other types of death are shown during the film. Becky brings hope towards Gilbert. This is evident when she meets Gilbert Grape in the local supermarket. After spending lots of time with each other, Gilbert comes to life, thanks to Becky.
Death is shown throughout the movie, with the suicide of their father Albert Grape through to the death of their mamma Bonney Grape. Arnie Grape is an autistic boy who wasn't expected to live a very long life. Arnie always says to Gilbert, "I can go at any time"
Bonney's death was very emotional because she was a very obese lady and hadn't left her house for seven years. Gilbert had the responsibility of looking after his autistic brother Arnie, which gave him no life. There father committed suicide in their house, which caused Bonney to become depressed, put on weight, and neve...
